Hi, I’m Chesong. I built Moti Quotes and I’m the one who reads these emails.

My Quote Never Showed Up#

Usually this is iOS rather than the app. Open the menu at the top left, tap Notification, and see what it says. If there’s a warning that notifications are off in iOS Settings, that’s your answer. Go to Settings on your iPhone, find Moti Quotes, and turn them on.

If that all looks fine, check whether you have a Focus mode running. Focus and Scheduled Summary will both hold notifications back, and neither of them tells you they did it.

Still nothing? Delete the app and install it again. That clears out whatever iOS has queued up and the app schedules everything fresh on first launch. Fair warning though: your bookmarks go with it, and you’ll have to set your time and days again.

I Saw a Quote and Now I Can’t Find It#

Tap the notification and it takes you to that exact quote. This was the whole reason I built the app the way I did.

If you already swiped it away, just open the app. The quote on screen is the one that was sent. It won’t change until the next one is due.

Adding the Widget#

Press and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap the + in the corner, search for Moti Quotes, and pick Today’s Quote.

There’s a Lock Screen one too. Press and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customise, and add it from there.

Either way it shows the same quote as the app, in whatever font and size you picked.

Changing the Font or Size#

Menu, then Settings. There are five fonts and a slider for the size. Drag it until it reads the way you want. You can also force light or dark mode if you don’t want it following your phone.

Suggesting a Quote#

Menu, then Suggest a quote. Write the line and tell me whether you want your name on it.

I read every one before anything goes in the app, so it won’t show up right away. I don’t send a notification about it either way, which is on purpose. Put whoever said it in the line itself, the way you would if you were texting it to someone.

Deleting Your Data#

Delete the app and the anonymous ID it uses goes with it. After that there’s nothing left on my end that points back to you.

If you sent in a quote and want it taken down, email me the text of it and I’ll delete it. The privacy page covers what gets collected in the first place.
